AR8200 "OneTouch" modification

   This page describes activation of enter key in main dial. This is very usefull function for example when you switch from scan mode to VCO or when searching text you can do this simple with one hand. Good question why this function is factory disabled. I heard about some licensing reason. So, why don't finish what AOR starts.

Latest news: Thanks to John Callahan, who has luck to own service manual to later model of AR8200, this modification is fairly easy to make on later models too (firmware 990410). The key to make this modification is only in connecting two solder pads marked at position of R572. This pads was not removed on later models, only moved! Only complication is removing of shielding tin which cover new position of R572. Shield removing is shown on picture below, consist of one screw removing and desoldering at three points.

    On first picture below is marked with arrow position of R572 in first series, on second picture in circle moved position of R572 in later series. Also original "wire" modification remaining on picture, but now not used. So, the modification is simple. It consist only of bridge soldered on R572 location. You can use piece of wire or small SMD resisitor of value below 1kohm should work. You must decide if you have enough skill and equipment to do this or risk scanner malfunction in worst case.
